All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching (scripture), and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:42, NLT.
After getting my second degree blackbelt Sensei Yaguchi made me train with the beginner’s class for one year. His reason, in his broken English, “To excel, must master basics.” He wanted me to refine the basics so that I didn’t have to think about them; so that they just happened naturally.
There may be no more important lesson for living in freedom from addiction and new life with Jesus. The basics are not complicated, but they take discipline. For them to begin to happen naturally, one must be devoted to doing them regularly. Scripture. Prayer. Worship. Supportive Fellowship. Service. Honesty. Confession. Forgiveness. Reconciliation. Is it time for you to move forward by going back…to the basics?
